It’s too early for New Year’s resolutions, but I’m going to make one anyway, which is to make the BAIPA authors-interviewing-authors section of this blog the happening spot in 2018.

We have 14 author interviews posted, but we have 180 members, so we’re not even at 10 percent yet. My goal is not only to more than double the number of interviews, but to grow the pool of interviewers.

The idea is that each author who’s interviewed interviews another author and we get as many people as we can involved in helping promote each other and BAIPA at the same time.

There’s no one way to do it, but for me, the easiest way is to start with an email exchange, set up a phone interview, and then share my edited draft with the interviewee for accuracy. We can post it for you, or, if you want to be part of our web team, we can show you how to post it yourself. You can see some sample questions below.

You can see all the interviews by looking under the “blog” menu for “author interviews.”

Special thanks to Woody Weingarten, David Kudler, Shari Weiss, Gael Chandler, and Laurie McAndish King for agreeing to be interviewees. If you’d like to join this illustrious list, contact me at johnbyrnebarry@gmail.com

Sample Questions:

  • Tell me about your book.
  • How did you come to write it?
  • What did you learn from writing it?
  • Was there a pivotal moment along the way?
  • What was the hardest part?
  • Tell me about the publishing and marketing part.
  • What’s next?
  • What do you do when you’re not writing?

One of my favorite things about BAIPA is its culture of generosity, the willingness — even eagerness — to share what we have each learned in the process of bringing stories to life. We provide educational programs, networking, marketing opportunities, encouragement, and information on industry vendors and services. And lots of one-on-one advice and mentoring.

We welcome all who have an interest in making connections within the world of independent publishing and learning more about how to publish and sell their work successfully. Together we are raising the standard of independent publishing and helping our members thrive.

Do join us!
