Signs of these amazing times! The BAIPA Board is delighted to welcome back Arlene Miller, who was Board Secretary for several years, as a remote Board member — and has reinstated her as Secretary. She attended the December Board meeting from Florida, through Zoom.
During the past year or so, the Board has been experimenting with using Zoom video conferencing as a way to make it easier for local Board members to attend monthly meetings, if attending in person is difficult. Incidentally, the Program Committee has also gone mostly virtual in its monthly meetings.
For quite a while, the Board has been discussing the possibility of satellite BAIPA chapters as a way of reaching more of our current Bay Area membership, as well as those who are not currently members. The plan has not seemed feasible because of limited volunteer resources.
So when Arlene expressed how much she missed the BAIPA community and meetings after her recent move to Florida, a light bulb went off in the collective imaginations of the Board. Why not employ Zoom as a way for Arlene to attend Board meetings virtually?
It worked pretty well in November, though we weren’t able to share our dinner with Arlene.
Taking that a step further, why not make it possible for members to attend our monthly meetings virtually — as a way of better serving our current members and also reaching out to those who can’t get to meetings in person but would like to ? We’re going to give it a try!
Arlene Miller says
I hope I can zoom into the member meetings too! But I was very jealous of you all eating dinner while I was on my sofa at home….and your breadbasket was right under wherever you put me on the computer!
