How Memorable Setting Can Advance Plot, Reveal Character, and Echo Theme
On November 11 at 2 pm, I’ll be leading a workshop on setting at the California Writers Club Marin monthly meeting at Book Passage.
The best and most memorable setting is more than a pretty, or gritty description. It’s lean and strong because it’s working two or more jobs. It’s advancing the plot, or revealing character, or echoing theme, or even doing all three.
This is a hands-on workshop. After we review the many different ways setting can strengthen your story, we’ll put what we learned into practice in several writing exercise. (If you have some setting passages you’d like to share, bring them.)
Relevant for fiction writers as well as narrative nonfiction writers and memoirists.
