We’ll begin by covering some definitions and the Born Accessible philosophy. Then we’ll walk through a checklist of accessibility features to consider when your book goes into production, including navigation improvements, semantics, and image descriptions. This discussion will also include an overview of the 10 best practices in writing image descriptions (alternative text to visual images), including examples and common mistakes for beginners. We will conclude with addressing why you should make accessibility a priority for your books.

About Our Speaker: Kris Tomes
Kris Tomes is the CEO and owner of Tomes Publishing Services. Kris has been freelancing and consulting for publishers throughout North America and New Zealand since 2012. She spent nearly 10 years at Lerner Publishing Group, where she managed ebooks, audiobooks, databases, apps, an e-reading platform, and led the company’s accessibility team. Kris is an international speaker who has presented at several eBookcraft and Tech Forum conferences over the years. She also served as the MN Book Publishers’ Roundtable vice president and social media manager from 2014 to 2016. A proponent of elastic assets, clean code, and future proofing, Kris is especially passionate about making books accessible to all readers.
