We’re expanding into new frontiers at Pro Audio Voices. We love doing complex, challenging projects such as the multi-voiced audiobook of The Naked Truth About Hedonism II – 3rd Edition: A totally unauthorized, naughty but nice guide to Jamaica’s very adult resort by BAIPA member Chris Santilli. We’re also about to launch a fascinating project called The World Codex that crosses boundaries of non-fiction and poetry about the Titanic that incorporates music and sound effects, and Ten Seconds That Changed My Life by Iain MacLeod, a Scottish author’s memoir with poetry and music.
And topping the list of boundary-pushing is the upcoming Cosmic Cowboy, the Musical – the first-ever full-cast musical screenplay in audiobook format. This project opens the doors and leads the way to a powerful opportunity for screenwriters who are challenged in getting their work to their audience — since film industry gatekeepers keep most screenplays from rarely getting further than a place in a pile on someone’s desk.
Not anymore! In the groundbreaking “musical screenplay” — Cosmic Cowboy, the Musical — my company Pro Audio Voices has collaborated with the multitalented songwriter/producer/author JD West, in this zany musical comedy, touching love story, and fast-paced adventure thriller, that is all rolled into one rollicking, intergalactic romp.
More than 50,000 screenplays are written each year. And though audio screenplays are beginning to appear on platforms such as Audible,Cosmic Cowboy is the first to go full production and with full songs. It’s dynamite! And the music ROCKS! With 11 of JD West’s original, fully produced songs (“UFO” and “Don’t Offer Me the Moon and Stars,” for example),Cosmic Cowboy, the Musical goes far beyond the scope of the typical “radio play.”
An award-winning and Emmy-nominated TV producer, Maureen Millen, calls it “a funny and joyful masterpiece with fantastic songwriting,” predicting that it will “set the stage for a new genre”!
This project has also involved the marketing and PR expertise of BAIPA members Bob Heyman and Rosina Wilson.
