Like our monthly meetings, these events are exclusively on Zoom. The Zoom links will be provided to you via the confirmation email you will get upon completing your registration, as well as via email on the Friday evening before, around 9 PM.
Therefore, all non-members MUST register in advance in order to participate. However, all current BAIPA members will get the Zoom info for this session automatically.

Navigating the Author–Illustrator Relationship
In the first hour, Barbara will discuss the role of an illustrator in creating drawings for a manuscript. How does an illustrator and author/publisher best collaborate during the process of creating the book? If a separate publisher is involved, where do they fit in? Are there differences with these relationships with children’s picture book illustrators and those publishing non-fiction? These answers might surprise many authors—and illustrators!
After an activity break, she will talk about editorial and advertising illustration, and alternative book markets.

About Our Speaker: Barbara McClintock
Barbara McClintock is the author/illustrator of over forty picture books for children. Her books have received five New York Times Best Illustrated Books awards, four ALA Notable Book citations, two Golden Kite Honor awards, a Horn Book/Boston Globe Honor award, Best Book Selections in Time Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, The Wall Street Journal, Publisher’s Weekly, The New York Public Library, Bank Street Books, Kirkus Reviews, and many other awards, citations, starred reviews and recommended reading lists. Her books have been translated into a dozen languages; one of her books is a best selling title in Japan.
Her illustrated book ADDISON MIZNER;VISIONARY ARCHITECT is a non-fiction biography that was last year’s NEXT GENERATION INDIE BOOK AWARDS winner of the Children’s/Juvenile Book category and a finalist for the Children’s Picture Book category.
She has created editorial illustrations for The New Yorker and the New York Times Book Review. Her artwork has been exhibited and is in the collections of museums, galleries and libraries around the world.
Barbara has lectured about her work nationally and internationally, and taught a class about creating children’s books at Wesleyan University. She served on the board of directors of the Eric Carle Museum, and chaired the Original Art Show at the Society of Illustrators.
Barbara lives in Windham, CT with the illustrator David Johnson and their two overly helpful cats.
