Tech writer and language expert Mike Pope will compare cloud-based vs. desktop word processing for modern publishing enthusiasts.

Mark your calendar for this month’s Noon Zoom on Wednesday, October 21, featuring tech writer and language aficionado Mike Pope, author of Crash Blossoms, Eggcorns, Mondegreens & Mountweazels: 101 Terms About Language That You Didn’t Know You Needed. He’ll compare the two big word-processing platforms—Microsoft Word and Google Docs.

Whether you’re an editor or write in your publishing role, choosing between Word and Google Docs can be challenging—especially when you have a choice. We’ll discuss which features and functionality best align with different tasks and roles.

Time permitting, here are some of the compare-and-contrast topics we’ll dive into (including a designated Q&A):

• Automation & other time-savers

• Cloud-based & desktop document management

• Collaboration & sharing

• Demystifying revision tracking

• Formatting and other word-processing tasks

If you have to use just one software, this session will give you a newfound appreciation for what it offers!

Mike Pope spent his career in technical documentation, working as a writer and editor for companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, and Google. He’s also developed and taught courses for engineers and other professionals on topics including the unique challenges of technical writing and the fun(!) of using styles in Microsoft Word. Now retired, Mike still uses word processing and text tools every day in his ongoing language studies.
