The 35th Northern California Book Awards will be held Sunday, May 15, 2016, in the Koret Auditorium of the San Francisco Main Library at the Civic Center. Admission is free.
The schedule is: Awards Ceremony from 1-2:30 p.m., and book signing and reception from 2:30-4 p.m. There will also be readings and remarks by this year’s award-winning authors.
The Fred Cody Award for Lifetime Achievement and Service will be presented to Susan Griffin—essayist, poet, novelist, and playwright. Over fifty years, in the twenty books she has written, Susan Griffin has made unconventional connections among seemingly disparate subjects. Whether pairing ecology and gender in Woman and Nature, or focusing on the targeting of civilians in A Chorus of Stones: the Private Life of War, Griffin draws connections between the destruction of nature, racism, and the diminishment of women, tracing the causes of war to denial in both private and public life.
The Northern California Book Awards are presented and sponsored by Northern California Book Reviewers, Poetry Flash, PEN West, Mechanics’ Institute Library, Women’s National Book Association-SF Chapter, San Francisco Public Library, Friends of the San Francisco Public Library, and Readers Bookstore at the Main.
