A big thank you to Tricia Sullivan, Mike and Pam Mirabella, Jen Anderson, Allison Madden, Marcia Schafer, Odile Sullivan-Tarazi, Eloise Hamann, and Zann Gill for volunteering to staff our table on Friday and Saturday at the San Francisco Writers Conference. BAIPA was a sponsor of the conference, and many attendees stopped by our table and talked to us about joining our community.
The writers’ conference is an ideal audience for potential BAIPA members because so many attendees want to publish books. Lots of folks stopping by our table are holding out for traditional publishing, for now, but they know that self-publishing is an option and BAIPA is the place to learn how to do that.

I was also on a panel representing BAIPA (and myself as a designer) — “Red Flag, Green Flag: What to Look for When You’re Hiring Help,” We talked about how writers can avoid being taken advantage by unscrupulous vendor and how to find people you can trust. (Join BAIPA and come to our meetings, for starters, I said.)
You can see two handouts below. The first is our new BAIPA postcard, which we shared with passersby at the table, and was also in the tote bag that all conference attendees received.
The second is my handout for the Red Flag, Green Flag panel. It’s called “How to Self-Publish Your Book Without Spending an Arm and a Leg.” It’s one part self-promotion and one part BAIPA promotion. I welcome feedback — I had to prepare it in a hurry, but I believe I can make it better and share it more widely.
