I’m sad to share that Carol Angel of San Rafael, a BAIPA member during the mid 2010s, died on October 1, 2024.
I met Carol at a BAIPA meeting in December 2015. Her kindness, intelligence, and creativity were easy to spot. Earlier in her life Carol worked as a lawyer, editor, and journalist. When I met her, she was retired, volunteering at the Marin County Humane Society, and turning her writing skills toward young adult novels.
Carol was one of my first editing clients. I worked with her in the developmental editing stage of two books that later became one. I delighted in our shared love of dogs as she brought her point-of-view character, a black lab named Puppins, and his canine cohort to literary life. Her vivid descriptions of Los Angeles still pop into my mind occasionally. I’d just had one of those moments the day before I heard the news of her passing.
My heart goes out to her closest circle. I know she deeply touched many lives—of humans and of our furry and feathered friends.
Carol’s 2018 book, Gone Dog, is available here. Her obituary is here.
