In the summer of 1970 Ed Davis enrolled in the Psychiatric Technician training program at Sonoma State Hospital in Eldridge, California, where his recent novella In All Things, A Return to the Drooling Ward takes place. Just seventeen at the time and fresh out of high school he was ill prepared for the world he was about to enter. Davis still lives in The Valley of the Moon, a short distance from Jack London’s Beauty Ranch and from the hospital grounds where In all Things takes place. Road Stories, his collection of travel essays going back forty years was published in 2013, and The Last Professional, his semi-autobiographical hobo novel will be released in 2015.
