BAIPA member Julie Freestone and her co-author Rudi Raab will be participating in an unusual event for their novel Stumbling Stone. They will join another German-Jewish couple, musicians Rebecca Rust, cello, and Friedrich Edelmann, bassoon, the San Francisco-Munich duo, on Sunday, August 28, 4 p.m. at Book Passage, 51 Tamal Vista Blvd, Corte Madera.
Julie and Rudi will share the mystery of Raab’s uncle who resisted the Nazis and paid dearly for his rebellion. Rust and Edelmann will showcase a composition by Hans Gál, who fled Germany, Austria and the Nazis before his career was fully realized.
“Gál’s work and name were forgotten until recently, when his daughter started to try to bring the memory of her father back to life,” says Edelmann. “Bringing the music and the historical novel together will be an unusual way to remember.”
