MORNING PRESENTATION:
The Secret to Improving Self-Publishing Results: Bake Book Marketing in the Book Production Process
David Wogahn, author of the Countdown to Book Launch series
Book marketing is often thought of as an activity that begins with the release of one’s book. The reality is that a book is like a loaf of bread—it begins to age over time once it’s released. As self-publishers, we can feel like we’re in a race to delay or slow down this aging process during the most critical period of our new book’s life.
How do we improve the odds of launch success and the longer-term viability of our book? By baking marketing into the book design and production process before the book is released.
David Wogahn and his company AuthorImprints have produced more than 400 books for independent authors in the last 14 years. During that time, he has developed a methodology and timeline that authors can use to better prepare for post-book-release success.
Based on his Countdown to Book Launch timeline, David will explain when key marketing events should be undertaken relative to steps in the production and distribution process.
Key Takeaways include:
- How and when to use the A-B-C list method for reaching testimonial writers, influencers, and readers/buyers.
- How to coordinate print book pre-order using IngramSpark and Amazon KDP to meet deadlines and avoid publishing the wrong version of your book.
- When and how to do the five steps of comparable book and author research and what to do with the information you uncover.
- You’ll learn a methodology for dividing book production into key components and how to coordinate those with pre-release marketing that can be applied to any type of book.
Attendees will receive a copy of his comprehensive Countdown to Book Launch® Timeline that they can use for their own book launch planning. It’s flexible enough to be adapted for self-publishing any type of book regardless of an author’s goals.
To further aid our members in applying this methodology to their own circumstances, David has agreed to receive questions from members in advance of the meeting. He’ll use these in the second part of his presentation to provide his advice on attendee book preparation and launch planning.
