BookBaby Awards
I have been skeptical of all the literary contests that are publicized (except Writers Digest—maybe because I’ve won two honorable mentions). As I look carefully at many of them, there is one company that does nothing but sponsor literary awards—which looks like a great money-maker for them.
My skepticism was confirmed by this note on BookBaby’s website:
Readers’ Favorite is the fastest growing book review and award contest site on the Internet. We have earned the respect of renowned publishers like Random House, HarperCollins and Simon & Schuster, and have received the Best Websites for Authors and Honoring Excellence awards from the Association of Independent Authors.
We are also very proud to be fully accredited by the BBB (A+ rating). The BBB is very cautious when it comes to book award contests, as all authors should be, and as a result we are one of the very few book award contests to receive BBB accreditation.
Here is the link with details: readersfavorite.

David, I’m skeptical as well, but it’s hard to tells sometimes. The quote from BookBaby makes it sound respectable. How do you tell, for example, that Writer’s Digest is more legitimate. I mean, I get more email solicitations from them than any other contests.
