Tamara Shiloh is not just a great-grandmother, and author of a five-book series, Just Imagine…What If There Were No Black People in the World? — about the significant contributions by black scientists and inventors in the United States and beyond.

She is not just the newest BAIPA board member — welcome, Tamara! — and member of the Program Committee.

She’s also opened a bookstore at The Shops at Hilltop in Richmond (formerly Hilltop Mall), the “go to” bookstore for multi-cultural children’s books. It’s called, appropriately, the Multi-Cultural Children’s Bookstore. It started as a “pop-up” during the holidays, but now it’s a regular store. “We have a wonderful variety of children’s books,” she said, “including books for children with disabilities and LGBT family books. One of the other noticeable attributes of our store is that all of our books are face forward. In other words, the covers of all of our books are facing our customers. What you see is what you get. Black History Month is here and we have great historical and biographical books for you to choose from.”

The store is open Wednesday to Saturday11 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Sundays 11 a.m. – 6 p.m., closed Monday and Tuesday. It’s currently the only bookstore in West Contra Costa County.

Becky Parker Geist, BAIPA President, CEO of Pro Audio Voices Inc and AMPlify Audiobooks

One of my favorite things about BAIPA is its culture of generosity, the willingness — even eagerness — to share what we have each learned in the process of bringing stories to life. We provide educational programs, networking, marketing opportunities, encouragement, and information on industry vendors and services. And lots of one-on-one advice and mentoring.

We welcome all who have an interest in making connections within the world of independent publishing and learning more about how to publish and sell their work successfully. Together we are raising the standard of independent publishing and helping our members thrive.

Do join us!
