Woody Weingarten will do his first-ever “meet-and-greet” book-signing this Saturday, Feb. 28, at Copperfield’s Books, 850 4th Street, San Rafael. You’ll find him at a table between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. “I’d appreciate it if BAIPA members would drop by to say hello and offer support,” he says.
Woody’s book, Rollercoaster: How a man can survive his partner’s breast cancer, is aimed at caregivers. Rollercoaster has so many facets: it’s a chronicle-memoir, a love story, and also a practical guide to research, meds and where to find help in coping with the whole situation.
The book tracks a caregiver’s bumpy yet uplifting journey from the depths—his wife’s diagnosis, to the heights—when the couple climbed the Great Wall of China. Their story proves that couples can successfully deal with the disease, the “slash, poison and burn” treatments, fear, and all the details—and that there truly is light at the end of the tunnel.
On his weblog www.VitalityPress.com, Woody notes that there are 35 million caregivers in the United States, and his tongue-in-cheek hope is that, over the course of time, he can sell a copy of his book to each one of them.
Woody, who’s been an award-winning professional newspaper editor and writer for 50 years, has also run a support group for male caregivers for two decades—and is the recipient of two “healing partner” awards.
Please come out and support a fellow BAIPA member this Saturday!
