I will be reading from my memoirs, Falling Up The Stairs, and Moving Out Of The Frame, at Why There Are Words, Studio 333, 333 Caledonia, Sausalito on Thursday, April 13, 7 P.M. Save the date.
Tamara is rewriting and updating her children’s book series on African American inventors and scientists. The five book series, Just Imagine…What if there were no Black People in the World is about African American inventors, scientists and other notable Black people in history. Book (1) Jaxon’s Magical Journey with Black Inventors and Scientists, (2) Marvin and Melvin’s Trip Downtown, (3) Let’s Hear it for the Girls, (4) Marvin and Faja’s Trip to NASA and (5) Marvin Meets Deadwood Dick. She has also written a book about Kwanza, Juneteenth and a short list of African American Firsts. She also does speaking engagements on the importance of teaching Black History all year.
Her other writing experience includes owner/editor-in-chief of Desert Diamonds Magazine, highlighting the accomplishments of minority women in Nevada, assisted with the creation, design and writing of a Los Angeles based, herbal magazine entitled Herbal Essence; editorial contribution to Homes of Color; editor and chief of Black Insight Magazine, the first digital, interactive magazine for and about African Americans. She wrote bios and profiles for sports figures for the now-defunct PublicFigure.com; created newsletters for various businesses and organizations and her own Las Vegas community newsletter, Tween Time News, a monthly publication highlighting music entertainment in the various venues of Las Vegas.
She is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), Bay Area Independent Book Publishers Association (BAIPA), Richmond Chamber of Commerce, Point Richmond Business Association, National Professional Women’s Network, Bay Area Consultants Network, Redwood Writers Club, Independent Book Publishers Association (IPBA) and California Writer’s Club-Berkeley & Marin.
