Writer’s World Consultations — From Finished Manuscript to Finished Book, Editing and Writing, Killer Book Blurbs

In addition to eleven workshops, a keynote by Lee Wind, the Q & A (a BAIPA favorite), and a variety of vendors, Writer’s World will feature three consulting opportunities, where you can sit down one-on-one and discuss your project — with book midwife Ruth Schwartz, editor and writing coach David Colin Carr, and me, author and editor John Byrne Barry.

From Finished Manuscript to Finished Book

Sit down with Ruth Schwartz, the Book Midwife (a.k.a. The Wonderlady) and have a practical conversation about how to take your book from finished manuscript to finished book, up online, available for sale in print and ebook editions.

  • Imagine having a clear path to self-publishing your book, step-by-step.
  • Get Ruth’s undivided attention for a full fifteen minutes, and walk away knowing exactly what your options are.
  • Take advantage of Ruth’s long history in publishing and her helping over 100 indie authors in the past five years.

Ruth will be offering 15-minute consultations and you can sign up at the registration table.

Editing and Writing Coaching

Editor and writing coach David Colin Carr offers a 15-minute consultation on any aspect of your writing — from grasping your intention and outlining to blocks in structure or the writing process to voicing and rich, impactful language. Whether you want feedback on your opening pages, your narrative voice, the outline of your book, specific structural/character challenges, or your pitch.

Please sign up for a 15-minute slot between 10:15 and 4:15 by emailing David@DavidColinCarr.com with your cell number or by signing up at the registration table when you arrive at Writers World.

Write a Killer Book Blurb

I’ve has been writing headlines and blurbs and promotional material for decades, as an author, editor, designer, and BAIPA webmaster. I’ll be hosting 15-minute consults on how to make your book blurb better.

Before self-publishing, the publishers wrote the blurb. Now you’re the publisher, that’s your job, and you need a killer blurb to sell your book in today’s crowded marketplace.

For authors who have completed their book, or are just starting. Most authors wait until they’re ready for publication to write their blurb, but it can often be more useful to write it before you’re finished.

Bring your book blurb or email it in advance to johnbyrnebarry@gmail.com and sign up for a slot at the registration table.

One of my favorite things about BAIPA is its culture of generosity, the willingness — even eagerness — to share what we have each learned in the process of bringing stories to life. We provide educational programs, networking, marketing opportunities, encouragement, and information on industry vendors and services. And lots of one-on-one advice and mentoring.

We welcome all who have an interest in making connections within the world of independent publishing and learning more about how to publish and sell their work successfully. Together we are raising the standard of independent publishing and helping our members thrive.
