by John Byrne Barry

About 40 BAIPA members and friends gathered in person on June 7 at the Key Room in Novato for our second hybrid in-real-life/online meeting of 2024. Another dozen or more joined us online.

Thank you to Tricia Sullivan, Odile Sullivan-Tarazi, David Kudler, Bob Heyman, Pam Fenner, Lynn Fraley, Val Sherer, Eloise Hamman, Allison Madden, Carol Jacobsen, Christina Gerber, Charylu Roberts, Steve Rustad, Judy Baker, Becky Parker Geist, and Ruth Schwartz for volunteering to help make our in-person BAIPA meeting in June a success. We could not have done it without you. Many hands made the work lighter.

Special thanks to Odile and Tricia, who coordinated the volunteers and followed up. I am grateful to them because I’ve done this before and though it may not take lots of time, there’s always something that comes up that requires some scrambling and I did not have to be the person who managed that. :)

You know what the usual reward for a job well done is — being asked to do more. Like volunteering for the December meeting. But that’s months from now.

In the meantime, there are real, tangible rewards — BAIPA recognizes volunteers with valuable prizes for their contributions.

That valuable prize is a book by a BAIPA author. The volunteers choose the book they want and BAIPA purchases it and ships it to them. It’s win-win: The deserving volunteers get a “free” book and one of our BAIPA authors gets a sale.

Thank you all again and hope to see on zoom in July.

One of my favorite things about BAIPA is its culture of generosity, the willingness — even eagerness — to share what we have each learned in the process of bringing stories to life. We provide educational programs, networking, marketing opportunities, encouragement, and information on industry vendors and services. And lots of one-on-one advice and mentoring.

We welcome all who have an interest in making connections within the world of independent publishing and learning more about how to publish and sell their work successfully. Together we are raising the standard of independent publishing and helping our members thrive.

Do join us!
