As independent authors and publishers, we wear (too) many hats and sometimes it helps to have checklist.

During the next few months, I’ll be assisting John Byrne Barry with the BAIPA blog while he is busy directing his new play, “Sausalypso Houseboat Wars Murder Mystery.” I thought a review of the blog post guidelines may be useful.

BAIPA blog posts go out every Sunday in an email blast. I look forward to helping you share your news and stories with fellow members. Send submissions to news@baipa.org.

BAIPA Blog Post Guidelines

  • guidelines
  • Submit posts about your book signings, meet n’ greets at bookstores, book fairs, book conferences, tips about self-publishing, and experiences during the self-publishing process that would enlighten (or amuse!) BAIPA members. The usual length for a blog post is 250-350 words.
  • If you have an upcoming event, be sure to include the details: who, what, when, where and how. It is best to send your submission to the blog editors at least two weeks before the event.
  • Longer posts (possibly a 2-or-3-part article) might focus on how a BAIPA author decided to write about a particular topic, what the writing process was like (easy/fun or challenging/hard), how the author found members of his or her team (publishing consultant, cover designer, layout designer, editor, proofreader, PR person, marketing advisor, etc.), and what a book signing and/or book tour is really like.
  • Please include jpgs of photos and/or images (for example, your book cover and headshot) if you have them.
  • Please include links to events.
  • Send your longer blog post submissions (articles) as Word documents. If short, send in the body of an email.  Send to news@baipa.org (or webmaster@baipa.org).

One of my favorite things about BAIPA is its culture of generosity, the willingness — even eagerness — to share what we have each learned in the process of bringing stories to life. We provide educational programs, networking, marketing opportunities, encouragement, and information on industry vendors and services. And lots of one-on-one advice and mentoring.

We welcome all who have an interest in making connections within the world of independent publishing and learning more about how to publish and sell their work successfully. Together we are raising the standard of independent publishing and helping our members thrive.

Do join us!
