There’s so much to know—and plan—before you launch your book!
As I prepared my part of the June BAIPA presentation (The Secret Life of Selfies), I realized I had learned quite a bit about how to launch a book. So I’ve put together a new website, BookLaunch.US, outlining what to do, when to do it, and how to do it (best practices).
I’m still working on the site (eventually it will have a little more content and look a lot prettier), but there’s plenty of useful information there now, so feel free to look around and leave a comment. Also, I’m looking for case histories of successful book launches—what worked well for you, and any recommendations you might have for others. If I post your case history, I’ll include an image of your book cover and a link so readers can buy your book.
BookLaunch.US already includes links to several BAIPA members’ websites, and I’ll gladly consider adding a link to others if there’s good information on them that’s specific to book launches (let me know). For example, I’ve included links to websites for:
- Gael Chandler on the page about creating a video trailer
- Joel Friedlander on the page about applying for awards
- Jim Shubin on the page about developing collateral materials
- David Kudler on the page about Goodreads
I hope you enjoy BookLaunch.US and find it useful. You can also download the “Planning your Book Launch” checklist (which I handed out at the afternoon workshop in June) from the website.

One of my favorite things about BAIPA is its culture of generosity, the willingness — even eagerness — to share what we have each learned in the process of bringing stories to life. We provide educational programs, networking, marketing opportunities, encouragement, and information on industry vendors and services. And lots of one-on-one advice and mentoring.
We welcome all who have an interest in making connections within the world of independent publishing and learning more about how to publish and sell their work successfully. Together we are raising the standard of independent publishing and helping our members thrive.

Great idea! Wish we’d had this when we were starting. We’d love to write a case history of what we learned from publishing Stumbling Stone. Let us know what you need
