Many aspiring authors start their book journey without a clear budget. It’s only natural. Most people who want to write a book are so caught up in the challenge of writing that they don’t spend much time thinking about the many things they will likely have to spend money on as they move from idea to published book to promotions.
But just like making a budget for your personal finances, if you don’t have a clear plan you’re going to end up budgeting by default, and this usually creates problems. Without a clear book launch budget, you’re likely going to spend too much money on the wrong things and not enough on the right things. And you’re likely to run out of money before you reach the end of the road.
This workshop will help authors avoid this all-too-common scenario. Think of it as a kind of book launch budgeting primer, helping authors learn how much to budget for each stage of their book launch campaign, where they might cut corners and where they should not, and what kind of profits they can expect. Of course, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to book budgeting, so we will go through many options so each author can come up with their own plan.
Key Takeaways:
- Learn some “framing principles” to keep in mind while developing a budget.
- Review the most common elements of a book launch campaign and explore how much authors should expect to pay and ways to save or cut corners.
- Discuss four sample book launch campaign budgets.
- Go through the “math” and break down the potential profitability of a book campaign.
