We’ve all heard about how we need to build our author platform. Increase our visibility.

One way to do that is to have your work show up in multiple places, not just your own website or Amazon page. Like the BAIPA website, which you’re reading now. Every new post is included in the weekly email blast that goes to about 1,150 emails, and is opened by about a quarter of the recipients.

Have an author event coming up, like Laurie King’s Book Launch Party for Your Crocodile Has Arrived?

An award you’ve won, like Sharon Cooper’s recent PPN award for Gymnastics Day with Silly Sammy?

Maybe you have a marketing strategy to share? A publishing problem you’re looking for help with? A creative approach to writing your book?

Or you can tell us about your meet-and-greet events at bookstores? (Tim Jollymore, I’m talking to you.)

And if you have no news to share, but would like to contribute to the BAIPA blog, we have plenty of opportunities, like interviewing a fellow author.

If you write a post for the blog and you’ve filled out your member profile, under the post will be a blurb about you, where you can plug your book(s). (Scroll down to see my profile.)

Linda Jay, copy editor extraordinaire, and I manage the blog and we’d love others to help, both with writing and editing, as well as posting and website maintenance. Contact us at news@baipa.org. See the blog guidelines here, but don’t feel constrained by them. We’re open to new ideas too. (But you do need to be a BAIPA member.)

We look forward to hearing from you.

Becky Parker Geist, BAIPA President, CEO of Pro Audio Voices Inc and AMPlify Audiobooks

One of my favorite things about BAIPA is its culture of generosity, the willingness — even eagerness — to share what we have each learned in the process of bringing stories to life. We provide educational programs, networking, marketing opportunities, encouragement, and information on industry vendors and services. And lots of one-on-one advice and mentoring.

We welcome all who have an interest in making connections within the world of independent publishing and learning more about how to publish and sell their work successfully. Together we are raising the standard of independent publishing and helping our members thrive.

Do join us!

—Becky Parker Geist, BAIPA Board of Directors, President
