MATHXPLORERS

Gigi Carunungan, Ed.D., an educational innovator from the San Francisco Bay Area, co-founded Synapse and Imagination Schools. She developed the Helical Model™, enhancing K-8 education with deep-dive, STEAM-based learning. Gigi also found Young Outliers and Playnovate, creating impactful STEAM lessons and camps.

She holds an Ed.D. from San Jose State University.

In her own words:

“MathXplorers makes math learning intuitive, friendly, exciting, & fun! Our math stories offer a nuanced approach to teaching mathematics to children. They bridge what is concrete and familiar to everyday life, resulting in a meaningful understanding and appreciation of learning mathematics. The characters’ predicaments are opportunities to solve problems by applying math ideas in context. They need the children’s help. Learning is making mathematical sense and problem-solving with mathematical thinking. Captivated by the characters and images, young learners follow the story, eager to know what will happen next.

“More than math, MathXplorers’ intercultural math stories have been tested and proven to engage, elevate conceptual understanding, diminish anxiety, and inspire and excite students to learn math. We accentuate four crucial elements that foster interest, active participation, and agency in math learning: necessity, curiosity, creativity, and community.”

One of my favorite things about BAIPA is its culture of generosity, the willingness — even eagerness — to share what we have each learned in the process of bringing stories to life. We provide educational programs, networking, marketing opportunities, encouragement, and information on industry vendors and services. And lots of one-on-one advice and mentoring.

We welcome all who have an interest in making connections within the world of independent publishing and learning more about how to publish and sell their work successfully. Together we are raising the standard of independent publishing and helping our members thrive.

Do join us!
