BAIPA member Sharon Cooper, a former gymnastics teacher in Petaluma, has written and illustrated her first book, a whimsical children’s tale about gymnastics called Gymnastics Day with Silly Sammy. On Saturday, August 20, from 1:30-3:30pm, Sharon will have a Meet and Greet at Copperfield’s in Petaluma, 140 Kentucky Street.
Sharon’s passion for gymnastics started when she was very young, as did her love for reading, writing, and drawing. She created the artwork for Silly Sammy from photographs and pencil sketches, and used Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to paint it.
Gymnastics Day with Silly Sammy describes four young gymnasts who discover the importance of responsibility and maturity in their weekly gymnastics class with Coach Wendy. They learn, as even Silly Sammy eventually learns, to use the gymnastics equipment with respect.
A preschool and developmental team coach for 12 years at Redwood Empire Gymnastics in Petaluma, Sharon’s first priority was to raise her three sons, while studying art and English in college on a part-time basis. She coaches gymnastics part-time.

One of my favorite things about BAIPA is its culture of generosity, the willingness — even eagerness — to share what we have each learned in the process of bringing stories to life. We provide educational programs, networking, marketing opportunities, encouragement, and information on industry vendors and services. And lots of one-on-one advice and mentoring.
We welcome all who have an interest in making connections within the world of independent publishing and learning more about how to publish and sell their work successfully. Together we are raising the standard of independent publishing and helping our members thrive.
Do join us!
