The Women of San Quentin: Soul Murder of Transgender Women in Male Prisons by internationally acclaimed journalist and photographer and BAIPA member, Kristin Schreier Lyseggen will be published by SFINX Publishing on September 15.
The book tells the true stories of nine transgender women from a variety of backgrounds, including a woman from the Bay Area who is in San Quentin. It also touches on many important issues such as poverty, race, gender and politics, which are revealed through narratives and letters in the book.
Kristin came to understand the trauma that these transgender women have experienced since childhood regarding gender identity and the difficulty of dealing with it while being incarcerated.
Trained as a journalist and photographer in Oslo, Birmingham (UK), Bangkok and San Francisco, Norwegian-born Kristin Schreier Lyseggen lives in Berkeley, California. She works on long-term independent projects with her husband, child psychiatrist Herb Schreier, and she is the author of “The Boy Who Was Not a Lesbian.”
