Watch seasoned cover designers give their rapid-fire hot takes on recent covers from a variety of genres. And beyond initial reactions, they’ll discuss what principles of design they’re seeing upheld or ignored. Whether you create cover designs, promote books, or just like to judge a book’s cover, you’ll get a good review of the fundamentals and see plenty of examples of design that hits its mark or misses.
Veteran book designer Victor Mingovits will lead the discussion with Bay Area designers Nita Ybarra and Mike Nicholls, with time for audience questions.

This invitation is extended to BAIPA members by Peter Goodman, Publishing Professionals Network (PPN), an all-volunteer 501(c)6 nonprofit association that promotes success in all aspects of book making through education, career development, and community building. Mr Goodman, Stone Bridge Press, was on BAIPA’s presentation Choose Your Path: Navigating Today’s Publishing Options (January 10, 2026) representing the traditional path to publishing.

One of my favorite things about BAIPA is its culture of generosity, the willingness — even eagerness — to share what we have each learned in the process of bringing stories to life. We provide educational programs, networking, marketing opportunities, encouragement, and information on industry vendors and services. And lots of one-on-one advice and mentoring.
We welcome all who have an interest in making connections within the world of independent publishing and learning more about how to publish and sell their work successfully. Together we are raising the standard of independent publishing and helping our members thrive.
Do join us!
