PAULA WAGNER

Biographical Info
I write poetry to stay sane and memoir to make sense of my follies. My debut book, Newcomers in an Ancient Land (SheWrites Press, 2019) recounts a magical gap year of idealism and bravado in 1960's Israel (a more peaceful era), where I fell in love with the land, the language and a man. I was born in England but grew up in the US with my British mother, Jewish American dad and identical twin sister. My family’s many moves taught me how to pull up stakes, but hardly how put down roots. Hence my lifelong quest for home, identity, and a sense of belonging. Labyrinth of the Heart, my sequel-in-progress, takes readers to post-WWII France where I experienced new challenges living in a working class immigrant Jewish community. I now live in the California Bay Area with my blended family. In between adventures, I’ve studied at the Hebrew University, earned a BA in Women's Studies, an MA in Career Development, and worked as a Career Coach. I enjoy yoga, swimming, music and the company of cats.
