Leaving the Faith of our Fathers
The author’s memoir about being raised in two different Christian churches and how she left both because of threats of hell or White Supremacist teachings. How that impacted her life and her relationships with her family. She chose to leave the church, but didn’t want to leave the family. Her sister is a preacher in a Christian Identity group.
Beginning with her childhood in Idaho in the 1940s and 1950s, she shows the culture of that time and her family life during childhood. Moving away from home as a young adult, she reads, talks, and hears various opinions and ideas. Overtime she leaves the church but finds enrichment and joy in her life partly through all the relationships she maintains, and her immersion in creativity.
With the dawn of the Trump era, she decides to cobble together the stories and poems she’s been writing over many years to explain why she left Christianity and has had a fulfilling life.
