Looking For Love in All the Right Places
Patti Thorn
20-year veteran book review editor Patti Thorn offers a lively discussion on book reviews from A to Z.
In an age where people count on reviews for everything from refrigerators to restaurants, book reviews are key to an author’s success. But how to get them? In this presentation, attendees will learn why reviews are important, as well as:
- How to target the right publications for your genre
- How to approach editors and bloggers for reviews
- Places to consider querying that you might have overlooked, such as alumni magazines and association newsletters
- How to hold an online book tour, and much more.
She will also, importantly, discuss how to make the most of reviews once you’ve gotten them. At the end of the presentation, she will provide attendees with a list of bloggers who review books. If you’ve been wondering how to manage your search for reviews, this is the session for you!

About Our Speaker: Patti Thorn
Patti Thorn is co-founder of BlueInk Review, a respected book review service that has provided nearly 10,000 book reviews over 10 years. Thorn was a 28-year veteran writer and editor at the Rocky Mountain News, which had a daily circulation of 300,000 at the time of its closing in February, 2009. She served the last 12 years of her tenure as chief book critic and editor of the book review pages. The section earned acclaim for its incisive and timely reviews, as well as for Thorn’s weekly column about books and the publishing industry.
In addition, she is the co-author of Fun Places to Go with Children in Colorado, published by Chronicle Books. The book has enjoyed two printings and sold over 20,000 copies.
She has also served as an independent editor for both fiction and nonfiction. Thorn is a graduate of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.
