David Kudler to Speak on “The Hero’s Journey” January 27 at Book Passage

January 4, 2019 by Webmaster

California Writers Club–Marin will be hosting BAIPA member (and former board member) David Kudler on January 27 at Book Passage for The Hero’s Journey — How It Can Serve as Blueprint for an Enduring, Transformative Story.

Mythologist Joseph Campbell believed that there was a myth that crossed all cultural barriers—the Hero’s Journey, which he described in The Hero with a Thousand Faces.

David Kudler, publishing director of the Joseph Campbell Foundation, and author of Risuko: A Kunoichi Tale, will discuss Campbell’s concept of The Hero’s Journey and how it can serve as a blueprint for creating an enduring, transformative story.

Some examples of creative works that follow this journey include Star Wars, The Hobbit, and The Hunger Games. In these, and countless other stories, the heroes go from a known world into an unknown world, where they call on their particular talents or powers to overcome challenges.

Since 1999, David has has shepherded over 70 print, ebook, audio, and video titles to publication for the Joseph Campbell Foundation. He also runs his own small publishing company, Stillpoint Digital Press.
